Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a type of dietary fat composed of medium-chain fatty acids. They differ from long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) / common triglycerides in terms of their chemical structure and how the body processes them. 


MCTs are less likely to be stored as body fat compared to LCTs. When you consume MCTs, they are rapidly absorbed and transported to the liver, where they can be quickly converted into energy. This contrasts with LCTs, which take a longer route through the lymphatic system before reaching the liver for processing. The efficient metabolism of MCTs into energy makes them less prone to being stored as fat. 


MCTs are like a fast-acting energy source for your body. They get converted into energy more quickly than some other types of fats, providing a rapid and efficient fuel boost. Athletes and those engaged in physical activities might benefit from MCTs as a quick energy source during workouts. MCTs can also be converted into ketones, which are molecules that your brain can use as an alternative fuel source. However, it is essential to note that the overall context of your diet and energy balance matters. If you consume excess calories, even from MCTs, your body can still store the surplus energy as fat. While MCTs are less likely to be stored as fat compared to LCTs, moderation in consumption is advisable.
